Work? What that?

Okay we don’t really do ‘labor’ round here and the idea that one would even imagine prefixing it with the word ‘hard’ is just incomprehensible to us. So when we were told to visit Kolarbyn in Sweden, the whole idea pushed us pretty much close to tears. No electricity, no running water, actually having to carry ‘stuff’. Who does that? But we are under contract so off we went.
We weren’t pleased on arrival, 12 huts with basic facilities. No room service, no nice white printed sheet with tick boxes for your laundry, no turn down service, no key card. The fear of being eaten by wooded animals began to set in. The only comforting thought was that we were only two hours away from Stockholm, the Nordic lights and ice bar shots.
So we toughed it out, or we started to tough it out and actually ended up enjoying ourselves. Once we had ruined our manicures, there was no going back. We got into the whole wood chopping [well, we got the hot boys in the other cabin to do that], foraging [they kinda did that too], open fire cooking [they may have also been involved in that…] and then jumped into the lodge’s rowboat and rowed right into the middle of the lake for a little sauna [well, we did find the boat!]
The evenings are beautiful. We got our fireplace working through some very instrumental delegation, lit some candles and snuggled into our sheepskin rugs and told stories till morning.
The thought of bathing in a stream the next morning though was a bit too much for us to handle. We love Mother Nature and as with every embrace, you really don’t want to hang on any longer than you need to because then it just starts to feel weird….
True heaven for back to nature types….
