Honest hearty food from the farm

Washington DC has taken into its hearts two restaurants that are basically run by farmers for the sustainability of American farming. Founding Farmers and the newer sister restaurant Farmers & Fishers believe that it is the right of all food lovers to enjoy a meal away from home that is fulfilling, delicious and honest made from the finest ingredients with known reliable sources.
We visited the newer of the two, the Farmers and Fishers, which is located in the beautiful Waterfront area of Georgetown. The staff are very welcoming and even without knowing the mission of ‘meal away from home’, you do feel like you are being welcomed into a warm homely environment. The menu offers American favourites,
items such as: burgers, sandwiches, crab cakes, pastas, pizzas and large steaks. All are served in enormous portions [so come with an appetite or with the knowledge you’ll be taking a doggy bag away with you!] and the quality of the produce is noticeable. The restaurants also recycle and compost, use low-voltage lighting and try to be as green as possible in every other way. It is nice to see a celebration of the American family farmer and the land but we admit we ate there not because of this but because it’s much nicer to know that a choice to eat out can mean the same quality food we would pick for a home meal. A great find for families with children.
